About DAR-UX:

DAR-UX is a pro bono project started by Dariya Bryant to help immigrant communities, especially those of women-owned/run businesses and organizations navigate the digital side of their venture, starting with one of the most important digital business tools - their website. Immigrants consistently face a variety of cultural, language and other barriers, and yet work tirelessly to bring such a breadth of expertise, creativity and value to the table.

Conception:
This project was conceived as I was ideating to pick the final project for my Google Certificate in User Experience Design. The program typically asks for a hypothetical project that benefits the public, however, I truly wanted for my project to have impact in the real world. I am an immigrant who was raised by a single mother in a very entrepreneurial environment. I saw the drive my mother had to help her clients through her business (women, men, transgender and non-binary individuals on their journey to remove unwanted hair), and saw her successes, and also her struggles with cultural and language barriers. I see the good and the talents that so many immigrants and marginalized individuals and communities bring to the table, and want to help these individuals and communities thrive by using my passion for User Experience.
Research:
I have conducted 9 interviews speaking with various immigrant women who are community leaders and small business owners doing good work in our communities and asked them questions about the kinds of assistance they need, the kinds of barriers they face and what would help their causes. Out of this research, DAR-UX was born!
To-date, I have met with and helped 10 small businesses/organizations jump start their user experience journey and am currently working with some of these on an ongoing basis. My proverbial door is always open, so I am continually meeting with more people and am lending a hand and an ear where time and resources allow!
